Woodworking
1. Miter or Chop Saw Depending on your budget, a simple miter saw will do and can easily be found for less than $100. If you have a bigger budget look into the Sliding Compound Miter Saws , they give really clean cuts on wider boards (and the replacement blades are cheaper too!)
2. Drill – Cordless Drills are handy no doubt. If you go the cordless route, at least get one with a second battery like this one. It never fails, the battery will die during a project, and at least you will have a backup.
I mostly use an electric drill and skip messing with the batteries (and they’re cheaper too!).
3. Kreg Jig Pocket Hole Screw System – If you are just starting out and keeping your budget in mind, the Kreg Jig Jr. is totally fine, I used this one for well over a year. If you are planning on doing builds quite often, you will want to upgrade to at least the Kreg Jig 4. It’s much faster.
They make bigger and better models, but it’s really not necessary for casual builders. You can upgrade later if you really build a lot and start selling.
4. Electric Sander – Let’s be honest, sanding sucks. And for less than $25 (prices may change) you can get an electric sander like this one and cut your work time by at least 90%. And then it’s not so sucky.
5. Clamps – There are all kinds of clamps. All kinds. I would start with a Kreg Right Angle Clamp and a longer bar clamp. Those two should get you through most projects.
