Are you planning a baby shower? Congratulations to the mom to be! I’ve designed some DIY baby shower centerpieces you can use for the big day. There’s one for boys and one for girls.
Not only are they adorable, they are super easy to make too! Because let’s face it, planning a baby shower is hard enough and the decor should be the funnest part!
And I’m sure you know parties can get pretty expensive in a hurry. But you won’t have to worry about spending a ton of money for these. All it takes is a sheet of cardstock and a bit of tissue paper and glue to make each one.
So let’s get to it.

DIY Baby Shower Decor Supplies Needed
- 65lb Cardstock
- Vellum Paper or Tissue Paper
- Craft Glue
- LED Tea Lights or String Lights (Small Strand) *Optional
- Cutting Machine (I use the Cricut Explore)
- SVG Cut Files for the Baby Shower Lantern (available in my Resource Library)
How To Make The Baby Shower Centerpiece
First download the Baby Shower Lantern cut file from the Resource Library. The file contains both the PNG and SVG of the lantern
In your design software upload the .svg file. Everything is already sized correctly for you to cut the lantern out of an 8.5×11 sheet of cardstock.
There are score lines included for the folds of the lantern. Be sure to select the lines in design space and change them to score. If you do not want to use the score lines simply select and delete.
If you do not change the lines to score or delete them, cutting machines will see them as a cut line. We don’t want that!
After you change or delete the score lines be sure to select everything and attach. Now you are ready to hit the make it button.
Assembling the Baby Shower Centerpieces
Next, you will need to cut your vellum or tissue paper slightly smaller than the baby shower lantern. I used plain white tissue paper, but the sparkly kind would look great too!
Use glue to adhere the vellum or tissue paper to the backside of the lantern.
Next, fold the lantern along the score lines. If you did not use the score lines, fold along the center of the space between each panel. And also fold on the longer end to create a tab.
After your folds are all done apply glue to the end tab and attach it to the other end. It’s a bit easier to flip it over after it’s attached to press down along the seam.
How to Decorate with the Baby Shower Centerpieces
So now that we have them together let’s see how we can decorate with them.
Lights are always fun! I added a small strand of battery operated lights to the boy lanterns. You can use LED tea lights also.
For the last baby shower I put together we used balloons. If you buy balloon sticks you won’t need to fill the balloons with helium. They work really well!
I stuck the sticks into floral foam blocks that were cut down to fit the lanterns. That didn’t work very well. The foam wasn’t heavy enough to hold the balloons up.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have a second option that I could quickly come up with. So I ended up using duct tape to hold them down. It worked for the party.
I’m decorating for another baby shower next month and I’m buying these mini dessert shooters to use. They’ll fit nicely down the center of the lantern. And after they’re filled with sand, they’ll be heavy enough to hold up the balloons. Plus we can fill the leftover cups with fruit for the shower. Win-Win!
The next shower I’m doing is for a baby boy, so I’ll be sure to update with finished pictures for that one too!

I made this yesterday and used glue. It looked awful, no matter what kind I used on different sections. Today I made it again and used double sided tape and it looks gorgeous. I also used vellum instead of tissue both time. Thank you for the svg.
